Originally founded in 1972 as BRT Financial, Inc., the company primarily focused on making real estate loans. It later converted to a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) and, to better reflect its business focus, changed its name to BRT Realty Trust in 2003 and subsequently to BRT Apartments Corp. in 2017. Today, BRT Apartments Corp. is focused on the ownership, operation, and development of a portfolio of multifamily properties, primarily located in the Southeast United States and Texas.
