Established in 2003, the British Columbia Unclaimed Property Society (BCUPS) is a not-for-profit organization that administers the province's unclaimed property program. Its primary mission is to reunite owners with their dormant or forgotten financial property, which can include funds from inactive credit union accounts, forgotten security and safe deposit box deposits, proceeds from life insurance policies, and funds held by courts and trust companies. BCUPS acts as a custodian for these assets, maintains a free searchable database for the public, and facilitates the claims process to return the funds to the legitimate owners or their heirs.
