Originally established as PT Bank Agroniaga in 1989, the company focused on financing the agricultural and agribusiness sectors in Indonesia. It was later acquired by the state-owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and became known as BRI Agro. In 2021, the company underwent a major business transformation to pivot from agribusiness lending to digital banking. This strategic shift culminated in a full rebranding in 2022 to PT Bank Raya Indonesia Tbk (Bank Raya), positioning itself as a digital attacker and a "digital bank for the people" focused on serving Indonesia's gig economy and MSME ecosystem.
