Established on August 15, 1966, the Bank of Uganda (BOU) is the country's central bank and primary financial regulator. Its core mission is to foster price stability and maintain a sound financial system. The Bank is responsible for formulating and implementing monetary policy, issuing the national currency (the Ugandan Shilling), managing the country's foreign exchange reserves, acting as the banker and financial advisor to the Government of Uganda, and supervising, regulating, and licensing all financial institutions within the country.
