Following its acquisition by Bank of America in 2009 during the financial crisis, Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. was combined with Bank of America's existing corporate and investment banking operations to form Bank of America Merrill Lynch. This division provided a wide range of financial services, including M&A advisory, equity and debt capital markets, lending, trading, risk management, research, and liquidity management for institutional clients, as well as comprehensive wealth management for individuals and businesses. In February 2019, Bank of America initiated a rebranding to simplify its identity, renaming the investment bank to BofA Securities and the wealth management arm to Merrill.
