Founded in 1900, Bank of Akron operated as an independent community bank dedicated to serving the financial needs of individuals, families, and businesses in Western New York, particularly in Erie and Genesee counties. The bank focused on building long-term customer relationships by offering a range of services including personal and business checking and savings accounts, mortgages, and various loans. In June 2021, Tompkins Financial Corporation announced the acquisition of Bank of Akron, which was officially merged into Tompkins' subsidiary, Tompkins Community Bank, in the first half of 2022. All Bank of Akron branches now operate as Tompkins Community Bank locations.
