Its platform was designed to handle complex payment flows, such as escrow, one-to-many, and many-to-one payments, which were common in marketplace business models. The company was a Y Combinator alumnus and aimed to simplify the process for platforms to pay out sellers and service providers. In 2015, Balanced was acquired by Stripe, which integrated its team and technology to bolster its own marketplace payment solution, Stripe Connect. Subsequently, the Balanced API and services were officially shut down.
