Originally founded in 1993 as Access Group, Inc., the company was a leading nonprofit provider of graduate and professional student loans, primarily serving law students. After the discontinuation of the federally guaranteed student loan program, the company ceased originating new loans in 2010 and focused on managing its existing portfolio. In 2017, Access Group rebranded to become the AccessLex Institute, shifting its mission to providing research, policy advocacy, and financial education resources to help students and improve access and affordability in legal education.
