Founded in 2017 by Justin Sun, TRON is an open-source blockchain project that aims to decentralize the web. It started as the TRON Foundation in Singapore, which oversaw the network's development. In 2021, the foundation was dissolved as the network achieved full decentralization, and governance was handed over to the community as the TRON DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). TRON's architecture provides high throughput and scalability, making it suitable for creating dApps and smart contracts. Its native cryptocurrency is Tronix (TRX). The network is also known for its acquisition of the peer-to-peer file-sharing platform BitTorrent in 2018.
