Established in 1979 by the Northern Territory Government, the Territory Insurance Office (TIO) has a long history of serving the local community. It operates as the Northern Territory's only local insurer, offering a comprehensive suite of products including motor, home, contents, and business insurance. TIO is also the appointed manager of the Northern Territory's Motor Accidents Compensation (MAC) scheme. In 2014, while its banking arm was sold, the insurance business was acquired by Allianz Australia Insurance Limited, but it continues to operate under the distinct TIO brand with a focus on serving the needs of Territorians.
