The Superintendencia de Bancos (SIB) is a technically autonomous Central Banking body, established to exercise surveillance and inspection over Guatemala's financial institutions. Acting under the general direction of the Monetary Board, its primary mission is to maintain the stability and solvency of the supervised national financial system. Its oversight extends to the Bank of Guatemala, banks, financial corporations, credit institutions, insurance companies, currency exchange houses, and other financial groups as mandated by law.
