Founded in 2009 as BankSimple and later launched as Simple in 2012, the company aimed to revolutionize personal banking with a user-friendly interface and integrated financial management tools, such as "Goals" and a "Safe-to-Spend" feature. It operated as a technology layer on top of partner banks (initially The Bancorp Bank, then BBVA USA). Simple was acquired by BBVA in 2014. In 2021, following BBVA USA's acquisition by PNC Bank, it was announced that Simple would be closing down, with all accounts being transitioned to PNC. The service officially ceased operations in mid-2021.
