Founded in 1993 by Ari Deshe and Jon Diamond, SafeAuto established itself as a direct-to-consumer insurance carrier focused on providing affordable, state-minimum auto insurance coverage, particularly for drivers who may be considered high-risk (non-standard). Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, the company's mission has been to make car insurance accessible and easy to understand. In 2021, SafeAuto was acquired by National General Holdings Corp., which is a subsidiary of The Allstate Corporation. Following the acquisition, the SafeAuto brand and its operations are being integrated into National General's Direct Auto Insurance brand.
