The Raiden Network is an open-source protocol that provides an off-chain scaling solution for ERC20 token transfers on the Ethereum blockchain, conceptually similar to Bitcoin's Lightning Network. Its mission is to enable near-instant, low-fee, and scalable payments, overcoming Ethereum's inherent limitations in transaction throughput. The project was one of the earliest and most well-known "Layer 2" solutions, developed by the German company brainbot labs Est. to facilitate micropayments and bring blockchain technology closer to real-world usability for everyday transactions.
