Founded in 2011, Pagantis was a leading fintech company in Spain specializing in providing automated, consumer-facing credit and installment payment solutions for e-commerce, known as 'Buy Now, Pay Later' (BNPL). The company offered services that allowed online shoppers to finance their purchases instantly at the point of sale. In August 2020, Pagantis was acquired by the global BNPL giant Afterpay (which is now part of Block, Inc.). Following the acquisition, the Pagantis brand and services were fully integrated and rebranded as Clearpay, which is the brand name Afterpay uses in the UK and Europe. The underlying legal entity, Pagantis S.A.U., continues to operate as a licensed payment institution under the Clearpay brand in Spain, France, and Italy.
