Established in 1964, the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) is the country's central monetary authority. Its core mission is to implement monetary policy aimed at ensuring price stability, to supervise and regulate the financial sector to ensure its stability and soundness, and to manage the country's foreign exchange reserves. The BNR also acts as the banker to the government and to commercial banks, and it is responsible for issuing the national currency, the Rwandan Franc.
