Hanjin Shipping

Information by Research Trustfinance

Founded in 1977, Hanjin Shipping grew to become South Korea's largest container line and one of the top ten in the world. The company operated a fleet of approximately 150 containerships and bulk carriers, providing global logistics and shipping services across major trade lanes. At its peak, it was a member of the CKYHE shipping alliance. However, due to prolonged low freight rates, industry overcapacity, and accumulating debt, the company filed for court receivership in August 2016. After failing to secure a viable rehabilitation plan, the Seoul Central District Court declared Hanjin Shipping bankrupt on February 17, 2017, and ordered its complete liquidation. Its viable assets were sold off to competitors like SM Line and Korea Line.
