Halifax Bank of Scotland
Information by Research Trustfinance
Originally founded as the Halifax Permanent Benefit Building and Investment Society in 1853, Halifax grew to be the UK's largest building society. It demutualised in 1997 and later merged with the Bank of Scotland in 2001 to form Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS). Following the 2008 financial crisis, HBOS was acquired by Lloyds TSB, which subsequently became Lloyds Banking Group. Today, Halifax operates as a prominent trading division of Bank of Scotland plc, itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group, focusing on retail banking services including mortgages, savings accounts, current accounts, credit cards, loans, and insurance products.
