The Student-Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) at Grand Valley State University was established in 2007 through a donation from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation. It serves as a capstone educational experience for a select group of top senior finance majors, who manage a real portfolio of assets. The students are responsible for all aspects of the fund, including security analysis, asset allocation, and performance reporting, with the mission of providing hands-on investment experience while aiming for long-term capital appreciation.
