Established in 1996 through the Government Employees Pension Law, the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) is a defined benefit fund that manages and administers pensions and other benefits for government employees in South Africa. As the largest pension fund in Africa, the GEPF has over 1.2 million active members and approximately 470,000 pensioners and beneficiaries. Its primary mission is to ensure that all members and pensioners receive their benefits reliably and on time. The fund's assets are managed by the Public Investment Corporation (PIC).
