Founded in 1974, FONPLATA is a multilateral financial institution established by Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its mission is to support the integration and harmonious development of the River Plate Basin and its areas of influence by financing studies, projects, programs, and providing technical assistance. Initially created as a financial fund ("Fondo Financiero para el Desarrollo de la Cuenca del Plata"), it was transformed into a Development Bank in 2018 to expand its operational capacity and better serve the evolving needs of its member countries.
