The International Basketball Federation, more commonly known by its French acronym FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball), is an association of National Basketball Federations which governs international competition in basketball. Founded in 1932, FIBA's mission is to develop and promote the sport of basketball worldwide. It is responsible for establishing the official basketball rules, the specifications for equipment and facilities, organizing international competitions such as the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the Women's Basketball World Cup, and the Olympic Basketball Tournament, and regulating the transfer of athletes across countries.
