Established in 1914 following the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago serves the Seventh Federal Reserve District. Its mission is to foster a safe, sound, and competitive banking system and a stable, healthy economy. The Bank's core responsibilities include contributing to the formulation of national monetary policy, supervising and regulating state-chartered member banks and bank holding companies, and providing financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government, such as operating the nation's payment systems. It also conducts economic research to support its policy and public outreach functions.
