The DSGV, founded in 1924, is the interest group and umbrella association for the German Savings Banks Finance Group. It is responsible for the strategic direction of the group, represents the political interests of its members at the national and international level, and manages the institutional protection scheme. The DSGV does not operate as a bank itself but serves as the central service provider and coordinating body for Germany's 359 savings banks (Sparkassen), five regional associations, six Landesbanken, DekaBank, eight Landesbausparkassen, and numerous other financial service providers within the group.
