Originally founded in 2016 as CULedger, the company was a consortium of U.S. credit unions and credit union leagues created to explore and implement blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) for the benefit of its members. Its primary mission was to develop a secure, decentralized network for digital exchange to reduce fraud, improve member experience, and streamline administrative processes. In 2021, CULedger rebranded to Bonifii to better reflect its focus on its flagship digital identity product, MemberPass™, a verifiable credential that allows credit union members to securely and conveniently verify their identity.
