Founded in 2014 as "Compte-Nickel" by Financière des Paiements Électroniques (FPE), the company's mission is to promote financial inclusion by offering a basic, low-cost payment account available through a vast network of local distributors ("buralistes" and newsagents). In 2017, the company was acquired by the banking group BNP Paribas, which has since supported its growth and international expansion. Now rebranded as "Nickel," it has expanded its services beyond France into several other European countries, maintaining its core value proposition of accessibility, simplicity, and transparency for everyday banking needs.
