Founded in 1989 by Martin Long, Churchill was one of the UK's first direct-to-consumer car insurance companies. The company grew rapidly, becoming famous for its "Churchie" the nodding dog mascot. When Direct Line Group demerged from RBS in 2012, Churchill remained one of its core brands.
