Broodfonds de Hazelaar is a Dutch "bread fund," a small-scale, member-run collective established in 2013 for self-employed individuals in the Soest region. It functions as a mutual support system and an alternative to traditional disability insurance. Members make monthly contributions to a shared account, and if a member becomes unable to work due to illness, they receive monthly tax-free donations from the fund for a maximum of two years. The model is based on mutual trust and solidarity rather than on a commercial contract.
