Vigeo EIRIS was formed from the 2015 merger of two leading European ESG research agencies: Vigeo (founded in France in 2002) and EIRIS (founded in the UK in 1983). The company established itself as a major global provider of ESG research, ratings, second-party opinions on sustainable bonds, and advisory services. Its mission was to equip investors and corporations with the data and tools needed to manage sustainability risks and opportunities. In April 2019, Moody's Corporation acquired a majority stake in Vigeo EIRIS, and it has since been fully integrated into the parent company, forming the foundation of what is now known as Moody's ESG Solutions.
