Takarékbank Zrt. had a long history rooted in Hungary's cooperative credit institution sector, dating back to the 1950s. Over the decades, it evolved into one of the country's largest financial institutions, with a significant nationwide branch and ATM network, particularly strong in rural areas. The bank focused on providing universal banking services to retail customers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and agricultural clients. In a landmark consolidation of the Hungarian banking sector, Takarékbank, along with Budapest Bank and MKB Bank, merged under the umbrella of Magyar Bankholding. The final legal merger took place on April 30, 2023, creating MBH Bank, a new Hungarian-owned financial superbank.
