Founded in 1962, Shipbuilders Credit Union was a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution headquartered in Newport News, Virginia. Its mission was to serve the financial needs of the employees and families of Newport News Shipbuilding, the largest industrial employer in Virginia. The credit union provided a range of personal banking services, including savings and checking accounts, auto loans, mortgages, and personal loans. On March 1, 2019, after a member vote, Shipbuilders Credit Union officially merged with the larger BayPort Credit Union to provide its members with access to a wider array of products, services, and technologies.
