Founded in 2017, Polymath aimed to solve the complex legal and technical challenges of tokenizing traditional financial assets. The company initially developed the ST-20 standard on Ethereum to embed regulatory requirements into security tokens. Recognizing the limitations of general-purpose blockchains for regulated markets, Polymath then developed Polymesh, a purpose-built public, permissioned blockchain designed specifically for security tokens. After the successful launch of the Polymesh mainnet, the Polymath company sunsetted its operations, transitioning the stewardship of the technology to the community-led Polymesh Association.
