Founded in 1987, LunchByte Systems, Inc. was a pioneer in developing software solutions for school food service management. Its flagship product, Nutrikids, became a widely used point-of-sale (POS) and back-office management system for school cafeterias across the United States. In 2011, the company was acquired by Heartland Payment Systems to expand its K-12 school services division, now known as Heartland School Solutions. Today, the technology and services originally developed by LunchByte are part of a broader, integrated platform that includes online payment portals like MySchoolBucks, menu planning, and financial management tools, all operating under the umbrella of Global Payments, which acquired Heartland in 2016.
