IRMA is an open-source digital identity platform based on the principles of Privacy by Design. Developed initially at Radboud University and now managed by the non-profit Privacy by Design Foundation, IRMA allows users to securely store personal attributes on their smartphones, authenticated by trusted issuers like municipalities or banks. Users can then selectively disclose only the necessary attributes to third parties for identification or authentication, without revealing any other personal information. The mission is to provide a secure, user-centric, and privacy-preserving alternative to traditional login and identity verification methods.
