Originally established as Continental Illinois Bank (Canada) in 1981, the company was acquired by the French bank Crédit Commercial de France (CCF) in 1986 and renamed Crédit Commercial du Canada. It operated as a commercial bank within Canada, providing various financial and banking services. In 1998, HSBC Holdings plc, through its subsidiary HSBC Bank Canada, acquired the bank as part of its expansion strategy in the Canadian market. The entity was officially dissolved on November 1, 1999, and its operations were fully absorbed into HSBC Bank Canada.
