Founded in 2014, BitMarket grew to become one of the largest and oldest cryptocurrency exchanges in Poland. It provided a platform for users to buy, sell, and trade various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Litecoin, primarily against the Polish Złoty (PLN) and Euro (EUR). The exchange abruptly shut down on July 8, 2019, citing a "loss of liquidity," which resulted in the loss of funds for an estimated 400,000 users and triggered a major investigation by Polish authorities.
