Abhaile is not a traditional company but a national government-funded scheme in Ireland designed to help people who are in arrears on their home mortgage and at risk of losing their home. Established in 2016, its mission is to provide access to free, independent, and expert advice to find a sustainable solution to mortgage debt. The scheme is coordinated by the Department of Justice and the Department of Social Protection and is delivered by the Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS), the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI), the Legal Aid Board, and the Citizens Information Board. It offers services from dedicated mortgage arrears advisors, accountants, personal insolvency practitioners, and solicitors.
