Originally founded as eeGeo Ltd in 2010, the company rebranded to WRLD to better reflect its mission of creating a 3D representation of the world for gaming, IoT, smart cities, and other applications. WRLD provided a SaaS platform that allowed developers and businesses to create immersive, location-based experiences using its dynamic 3D maps. In August 2021, WRLD was acquired by Niantic, the creators of Pokémon GO, and its team and technology were integrated into the Niantic Lightship Augmented Reality Developer Kit (ARDK) to enhance its real-world metaverse platform.
