Created in 1972 by the Wisconsin Legislature, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) is an independent, self-supporting public corporation. Its mission is to stimulate the state's economy and improve the quality of life for its residents by providing affordable housing and business financing products. WHEDA receives no state tax funding for its operations and works with a network of lenders, developers, local governments, and nonprofit organizations to deliver its financing programs for single-family homes, multifamily rental housing, small businesses, and agricultural operations.
