The U.S. Small Business Administration is an independent agency of the United States federal government established in 1953. Its mission is to aid, counsel, assist, and protect the interests of small business concerns, preserve free competitive enterprise, and maintain and strengthen the overall economy of the nation. The SBA is most known for its role in providing and guaranteeing loans, offering counseling and training through various partners, and administering disaster relief and special economic programs, such as the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) that became prominent as "stimulus money" for small businesses.
