Established by the Canadian Payments Act, Payments Canada is a public purpose organization responsible for the critical infrastructure of Canada's financial system. It owns and operates the country's national payment clearing and settlement systems, including Lynx (Canada's high-value payment system) and the Automated Clearing Settlement System (ACSS). The organization's mandate is to promote the safety, soundness, and efficiency of these systems. It brings together a wide range of financial institutions as members to make rules, set standards, and manage the evolution of payments in Canada, including leading the industry-wide payment modernization initiative.
