Established in 1942, the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) serves as the administrator of retirement, disability, and death benefits for state employees, public school teachers, and employees of over 300 municipalities and other public entities in Maine. As a defined benefit plan, MainePERS is responsible for prudently investing contributions from members and employers to ensure the long-term funding of promised retirement benefits.
