Founded in 1981, HSBC Bank Canada was a Schedule II bank and a leading international bank in the country. It operated as a subsidiary of the UK-based HSBC Holdings plc. The bank provided a full range of financial services to individuals, businesses, and institutional clients through its three main business lines: Commercial Banking, Wealth and Personal Banking, and Global Banking and Markets. With a history of connecting Canadian clients to global opportunities, it was the seventh-largest bank in Canada before its operations were sold to the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). The acquisition was completed on March 28, 2024, and all HSBC Canada branches and offices have since been converted to RBC branding.
