Founded in 2007 as Gerencianet in Ouro Preto, Brazil, the company began as a payment intermediary focused on automating the issuance of "boletos" (a popular Brazilian payment method). Over the years, it expanded its services to include credit card processing, recurring payments, and a comprehensive API for developers. In 2020, it received authorization from the Central Bank of Brazil to operate as a Payment Institution. To reflect its evolution from a payment gateway into a complete digital bank offering accounts, cards, and credit solutions, the company officially rebranded to Efí Bank in 2022.
