Originally established in 2009 as a joint venture between the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Globe Telecom, and the Ayala Corporation, BPI Globe BanKO was a pioneer in mobile-based savings banking. In 2016, BPI took full ownership, and the institution was rebranded and refocused as "BanKo". Today, BanKo operates as BPI's dedicated microfinance arm, with a mission to promote financial inclusion by offering accessible and affordable loan products, specifically the "NegosyoKo" (My Business) loan, to self-employed micro-entrepreneurs (SEMEs) across the Philippines.
