Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is a digital payment application developed and operated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an umbrella organization for retail payment and settlement systems in India. Launched on December 30, 2016, BHIM's mission is to drive financial inclusion and enable a digitally empowered, less-cash society. It allows users to send and receive money instantly and directly between bank accounts using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) framework, requiring only a mobile number or a Virtual Payment Address (VPA).
