Established on 1 July 1953, Bank Indonesia is the central bank of the Republic of Indonesia. As mandated by the Constitution and relevant acts, its single primary objective is to achieve and maintain the stability of the Rupiah's value. This is achieved through three main pillars of responsibility: establishing and implementing monetary policy, regulating and ensuring the smooth functioning of the payment system, and maintaining the stability of the financial system. Bank Indonesia acts as the sole institution with the right to issue and circulate Indonesian currency, manages the country's foreign exchange reserves, and serves as the lender of last resort for the banking system.
