Founded in 2005 by Joe Duran, United Capital Financial Advisers was an independent financial life management firm headquartered in Newport Beach, California. The company pioneered the "Financial Life Management" approach, which integrated a client's financial decisions with their personal life goals. Through significant growth and numerous acquisitions of other advisory firms, it became one of the largest Registered Investment Advisers (RIAs) in the United States. In May 2019, Goldman Sachs announced its acquisition of United Capital for $750 million in cash. The acquisition was aimed at broadening Goldman Sachs' wealth management services to high-net-worth clients. Following the acquisition, United Capital was integrated into and rebranded as Goldman Sachs Personal Financial Management.
