Originally established in 1993 as Muramati Tea Growers Sacco, the institution rebranded to Unaitas Sacco Society Limited in 2012 to reflect its diversified and national scope. It operates as a Deposit-Taking Sacco (Savings and Credit Co-operative), regulated by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) of Kenya. Unaitas's mission is to transform lives by providing innovative and competitive financial solutions to its members, who include individuals, investment groups (chamas), and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
