Originally founded in 2012, SimpleTax was an independent Canadian technology company focused on creating user-friendly, web-based software for preparing and filing personal income tax returns. Its mission was to make tax filing more accessible, intuitive, and affordable, operating on a "pay-what-you-want" model. In 2019, the company was acquired by the financial technology firm Wealthsimple. It has since been fully integrated into the Wealthsimple ecosystem and rebranded as "Wealthsimple Tax," continuing its mission to provide simple and free (with optional donation) tax filing services to Canadians.
